Description

  • Set of Sixteen Plaquettes with the 'Totentanz' ('Dance of Death')
  • gilt bronze, on two velvet and silk lined wood mounts
  • After Hans Holbein the Younger (1497/8-1543) German, 17th century
each numbered in paint and with old printed paper number labels to the reverse

Condition

Overall the condition of the plaquettes is good, with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age and handling. All have lost pins attaching them to the mounts, with the result that three are detached. There are a few very small original casting lacunae to some of the plaquettes. There is wear to the velvet mounts throughout, one of which has lost its support/ stand, whilst the other support/ stand is partially detached.
