Condition
Some traces of polychromy remain, particularly on the inside of the cloak. There has been some worming at back. The saint's right hand and sword may be replaced. There are several stable splits to the wood, including at horse's belly and neck. The horse's front right leg may have been carved in original separate section. Overall the condition is good.

Catalogue Note
The ovoid head, with large drooping eyes and face framed with locks of hair are typical of Tirolian woodcarvings of the early 16th century. See the figure of St Oswald from Sillian in Innsbruck and also note the similar style of the collar.
