Condition
Beechwood casket: There is dirt and wear consistent with age. There is evidence of past worming to the wood, particularly to the bottom panel and front left corner. There is stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material and a few wax restorations. The lower left corner strap to the reverse is lost and there are losses to the front left vertical strap, reverse right vertical strap and to the vertical strap on the right side. The front left vertical strap has lost a pin and is loose and the reverse right lower corner strap is loose. The wood may originally have been painted and the straps reattached. The lock does not operate and there is oxidation to the metal. The feet may be replaced. Otherwise the condition is good.
Chagreen casket: Overall the condition is good with minor dirt and wear consistent with age. There are a few small splits and lacunae to the chagreen including to the centre panel above the lock, where the chagreen has peeled away slightly. There is some oxidation to the mounts and some of the upper straps on the lid have lifted from the chagreen slightly.
