Condition
Overall the condition of the pendant is good. There is wear and some minor dirt to the surface consistent with age and handling including some slight warping, nicks and scratches. There are losses to the gilding throughout. There are a few losses to the enamel in the text border and some traces of red enamel on the Lamb and Christ's halo. The pin that connects the hinge is replaced; a section from the clasp has been lost. There is some minor greening to the crevices.

Catalogue Note
The type of inscription that runs along the edges of this pendant is seen in Limoges metalwork in the second half of the 13th century and remained a regular feature after 1300. A lead container from the Schnütgen Museum illustrated by Witte (op.cit.) appears to be of identical form to the present example although only one side survives.
