Catalogue Note
This fine bust is a rare original plaster by Carpeaux; the few known editions of the present model include a terracotta in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Amiens (inv. no. M.P.87.2.23). The subject, a Bacchic infant, is an adaptation of L'Amour à la folie, which lies at the feet of the Génie de la Danse on the façade of the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
