Catalogue Note

The present bronze is a particularly fine life-time cast of one of Barye's most successful models, with Poletti and Richarme noting that twelve épreuves were sold during the Association Martin-Barye period, between July 1850 and March 1857. The bronze is further distinguished by its royal provenance and the marked inventory number: XXXV.
