Catalogue Note
This fine bronze is cast after the statue of Augustus togatus (Augustus togate) in the Galleria degli Uffizi (inv. no 1914.76). The rectangular base, finely chiseled hair and carefully rendered hands are very close of the work of the Florentine sculptor Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi (1656-1740). The remainder of reddish-gold translucent varnish over the light brown patina is a further indicator of a Florentine origin.
