32-inch library globe, color-printed coated-paper gores mounted on clear plastic orb illuminated from within. Designed and edited by cartographer Gustav Brueckmann and manufactured by Replogle Globes, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, ca. 1960. Bronze full ring meridian, the globe mounted on a mahogany "art deco" style stand with oval base mounted on castors, the globe meridian suspended from two tapered mahogany columns extending from the base, large lucite time-zone dial. A brass plaque affixed to
the base reads: "Honorable Robert S. McNamara | Secretary of Defense | 1961–1968." (Oval base: 23 x 29 1/2 in.; total height on stand: 65 in.)

Catalogue Note

While McNamara got this large reference globe as a necessary adjunct to his duties as Secretary of Defense, Mrs. McNamara has stated that it was one of her husband's favorite possessions and that he also kept it and referred to it while President of the World Bank and throughout his retirement.
