Catalogue Note

First edition, inscribed by Mrs. Kennedy on the flyleaf: "For Bob and Marge | with appreciation | Jackie."  There is a note (probably in Mrs. McNamara's hand)  indicating that Mrs. Kennedy presented the book to the McNamaras at a dinner given in her honor at the Regis Hotel by her sister-in-law Jean Kennedy Smith and her husband Stephen. According to Lady Bird Johnson in her White House Diary, this was Mrs. Kennedy's first appearance at a public social function after the President's assassination (pp. 170-171).
