8 autograph letters and notes signed ("Jackie"), totalling 15 pages on 9 various notecards, [Washington and New York, 1962–1975], to Margaret McNamara, 2 accompanied by their original autograph envelopes, some docketed in pencil by Robert McNamara with their dates — accompanied by a White House Christmas card with printed facsimile signatures of President and Mrs. Kennedy.

These cards record the long and warm friendship between the First Lady and the wife of President Kennedy's Secretary of Defense. The earliest note, from 1962, thanks Mrs. McNamara for sending Art Voices and jokes about the McNamaras having been invited to come to a screening of the movie PT-109 at the White House ("Jack heard of it & said he did not want to inflict his Naval career on the Sec of Defense!").

Three notes from 1964 and 1965 are written on black-ruled mourning cards. One announces her intention to move to New York: "I almost think I will see more of you, and of all my loved Washington friends in N.Y.—than I would have in D.C.—where I was just becoming more and more of a recluse. I will always be that—but it will always be a joy to see you and the people of Jack's bright days. … Anyway—one must attempt to start a new life."

Four notes from the 1960s and 1970s accompanied Christmas gifts from Mrs. Kennedy, and the final item in the group is a printed acknowledgement of condolences received after the death of Aristotle Onassis, with an autograph note appended.
