Catalogue Note
Augusta de Grasse Stevens was born Elizabeth Augusta Stevens in New York in 1850. She made a literary career for herself in Europe as a journalist and novelist. Her first novel was Old Boston but her best-remembered work is probably The Lost Dauphin, which argues that Louis XVII was spirited away to the New World and brought up by the Iroquois. She died in Brussels in 1894.
