Catalogue Note

A letter bringing together two of the greatest writers of their age.  Andersen was astonished to find himself treated as a great literary celebrity on his first visit to Britain in the summer of 1847. He and Dickens had met on 16 July . He here introduces Andersen to a convivial figure in Edinburgh society, Lord Patrick Robertson (1794-1855), a prominent judge and minor poet.
