Catalogue Note

The rare first edition of Geoffrey of Monmouth's hugely popular History of the Kings of Britain, which as a work of national myth (rather than accurate history) was a powerful force unifying the British Isles from the twelfth century onwards. It is the primary source for Sir Thomas Mallory's stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
