Description
- Lithographic longitudinal interior cross-section entitled "White Star Steamers Olympic & Titanic Each 45,000 tons ... The Largest Steamers in the World"
- ink on paper
a large and exceptionally rare promotional print probably produced during the ships' fitting out, showing their internal layout with considerable explanatory detail, with safety features visible (double hull, internal bulkheads) and internal decorations, with additional promotional text in a cartouche ("The new White Star Liners 'Olympic' and 'Titanic' are far and away the largest vessels ever built ... Their huge hulls, divided into thirty water-tight compartments, contain nine steel decks and provide accommodation for 2,500 passengers besides a crew of 860. They are triple-screw steamers, and their engines of 50,000 horse-power will propel them at a speed of 22 1/2 knots. In equipment they are unsurpassed by anything afloat, as can be seen from the diagrammatic interiors. Each vessel when completed will have cost £1,500,000"), 225 x 1025 mm), probably 1911, originally folded into eight sections, mounted, framed, and glazed (mount 460 x 1235 mm), professionally repaired including c.30 mm at the left edge of the plan in modern facsimile

Catalogue Note
This evocative plan, which shows the ship bustling with life, envisages the interior of the White Star Line's Titanic class ships. The accompanying text reveals that it was produced when Titanic and Olympic were under construction, no doubt to promote the new service and the White Star Line.
