Description
of lobed form, the cover centred with a spear hung with a stone chime surrounded by twin fish, a bat, leafy magnolia and two melons, all carved in high relief against a meticulously detailed leiwen ground within a zigzag border, the sides with hovering bats, the lobed sides of the box carved with further alternating auspicious panels of bats, peonies, melons and spear, all against a leiwen ground, the cream-coloured surface with an attractive patina
Provenance
Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.
Condition
The outer rim on the edge of one lobe of the box has chipped off (approx. 2cm). There is a polished chip to the tip-end of the ribbon holding the twin fish on the cover. Otherwise the box is in quite good condition.
