Description

naturalistically carved with curling tendrils, the surface of the fruit skilfully pricked with shallow holes to imitate its natural porous texture, the hollow interior concealed by one finger forming the cover, the ivory well patinated to a rich yellow colour

Provenance

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.

Condition

The tip-end of two tendrils are chipped, one more recently with a 1.5 cm section missing. The other chip is older with some associated cracks extending along the finger. A few other expected age cracks and wear.
