Description

the stone of a pale celadon tone with natural black inclusions and areas of calcification, carved as a seated deity with a serene face, flanked by a human head and a monkey head, each head crowned with a five-leaf diadem, surmounted by a bud finial, carved with three pairs of arms, his principal hands raised slightly above his attenuated waist with the right palm facing up, the left principle hand in harina mudra, his attendant arms fanning out from the body with the hands also in harina gesture, the shoulders draped with a billowing shawl wrapped around the lower arms, adorned with beaded necklaces and bracelets, seated in dhyanasana on a lotus pedestal

Provenance

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.

Condition

The figures top two right arms, as well as a section (4.8 cm, with loss) of his shawl on the right, have been replaced. The index and little finger of his right principal hand have been slightly polished down. There is loss of about 0.8 cm to the base. The stone has some natural inclusions and areas of calcification around the pitted areas of the stone.
