Description

the slender figure elegantly carved with a demure face and almond shaped eyes, her finely incised hair coiled in a high chignon partly covered with a veil falling to the shoulders, standing in a gentle sway dressed in a long flowing robe, holding a twig of prunus blossoms in her right hand while grasping the edge of her shawl, the cream-white ivory well patinated with polychrome details, on a carved wood stand with a green-stained ivory fence

Provenance

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.

Condition

There are a few chips and losses to the prunus twig (one small section being detached and kept in a separate bag), the tip of two fingers of her left hand are chipped. There is some rubbing and partial fading to the coloured areas. There are some typical vertical age cracks, more particularly concentrated on the left side of her back. Several sides of the to the green-stained fence around the wood base are missing (showing in the illustration in the catalogue).
