Description
Wenshu seated with crossed legs on a recumbent Buddhist lion further raised on a craggy rockwork base, his serene face with downcast eyes, long hair tied in plaits resting on each shoulder, dressed in a long flowing robe clutching a ruyi, the lohan Nagasena, seated with both hands folded atop the raised right knee, with a balding head, downcast eyes and curly hairs and beard, wearing a loosely tied monastic robe exposing his emaciated torso, seated on a rocky base flanged with leaves, the wood of both figures patinated to a warm chestnut-brown colour, both identified in ink on their bases, with a possible cardinal direction and a placement order

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.
Condition
Each figure is in good condition with some wear to the edges consistent with age. There is a minor bruise to one of the curls of the Buddhist lion's mane.
