Description
the slightly domed quadrifoliate cover centred with a purplish-red hardstone knop, surrounded by further raspberry-red glass gems outlined in hammered gilt threads, the box of conforming shape, circled by a similar gilt-decorated band of red glass gems, the flat base slightly convex, the translucent stone of a milky white tone with tinges of pale celadon speckled with natural inclusions, wood stand
Provenance
Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.
Condition
Some glass gems have probably been replaced, while some others possibly restuck or stabilised by glue. There are some loss to the gilt decoration but most has been well preserved. The rim of the box has two hairline cracks of approx. 3.5 cm (Y-shape) and 1 cm. There are also some chips to the edges (max 0.6 cm to the rim of the cover) and the interior (behind places where glass gems were inlaid, hence invisible from the outside).
