Description
the cover naturalistically carved in relief in the form of a large fruit with an attendant pomegranate, borne on a gnarled branch with insect-eaten leaves, one beetle appearing from under a leaf, while a smaller one clambers on the larger fruit, the box of conforming shape similarly decorated with fruits on a leafy branch, the bamboo root with a chestnut-brown patina
Provenance
Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.
Condition
Sections of the inner lip of the box have been replaced, with the largest one measuring 1.8 cm. There is an opening of 0.2 cm near the rim of the box, possibly a carving flaw. There are also some chips and losses to the carving, especially to the legs of the beetles.
