Description

in the form of a circular plaque, deftly carved in relief and openwork with a sinuous dragon with a slender body covered with scales, writhing between billowing clouds, its powerful claws forcefully outstretched towards to the edges, the design extended to the reverse, the surface embellished with gilt paint, the wood of a rich dark brown tone

Provenance

Acquired in Paris between the 1970s and the early 90s.

Condition

The overall condition is quite good, except for a couple of polished chips of 0.8 cm each to one of the whiskers of the dragon. There are traces of gilt decoration. The surface is covered with a glossy transparent varnish, probably for protection of the remaining gilt decoration.
