Catalogue Note
Ignatius Caspar Berthold’s paternal grandfather, Georg, came from Hengersbach and was, like Ignatius’s father, Franz Ignaz, a silversmith in Augsburg. Ignatius Caspar Berthold, who was born in Augsburg in 1719, was appointed Meistergerechtigkeit (Assay Master) in 1750. He was married in 1754 and died in 1794.
