Condition
In overall good condition. Legible marks under the base, assay scrapes under the base and inside the cover rim. Nice embossing quality.

Matthias (Matthäus) Gelb I, a native of Ulm, where he was born in 1597, was admitted as a goldsmith in Augsburg in 1625. A prominent citizen and a member of the High Council, he was twice married, appointed Vorgeher three times and died in 1671.
