the first, shaped moulded rim on three scroll feet,  5cm, 2in high ; the second, modelled as leaf and rose bud, ring thumbpiece, 12cm, 4 3/4 in long

Condition

repair to a flute and candle sconce of earlier example not marked and might be a replacement, other marks clear. other with a few scratches and tiny split, sconce with a few little dents.

Catalogue Note

Johann Christian Drentwett I, son of a goldsmith Philipp Jakob Drentwett III, was born in 1686. He became a master goldsmith in 1718.  His first wife was Ursula Sturm, and his second, whom he married in 1725, was Catharina Benz. He held various positions in the guild between 1746 and 1752, and died in 1763.
Johann Jakob Adam was born in Memmingen in 1720, the son of the Augsburg goldsmith, Elias Adam. He became a master goldsmith in 1748 and, a year later, married Anna Susanna, the daughter of goldsmith Johann Jakob Baur IV. He was elected Geschaumeister (warden) of the guild of goldsmiths in 1762 and 1764, and died in 1791.
