cylindrical, engraved with a fishscale ground enclosing a coat-of-arms, inscription and two vases of flowers, one with a bird, gilt interior, maker's mark only

Condition

Some dents inside. Some old repairs. Maker's mark only under the base. Very nice piece.

Catalogue Note

The inscription reads: 'MARTINUS NAGISIGETI ANNO DOMINI 1638.’ 

Martinus (Máton) Nagyszigeti de Gyulafehérváre , was enobled  in 1611, his title being renewed and confirmed in 1648 by György Rákóczi II (1621-1660), Prince of Transylvania. He originated from  Karlsburg (Gyulafehérvár), which was the capital of the principality of Transylvania for parts of the 16th and 17th centuries.
