Catalogue Note
A scent filled sponge would hold the perfume. The town mark on this box is almost certainly a variant of the Schweinfurt marks recorded by Dr. Scheffler in Goldschmiede an Main und Neckar, Hanover, 1977, p. 44. The goldsmith is recorded by Scheffler but without an example of his maker's mark.
