the circular bowl in the style of an early 18th Century monteith, lion mask drop handles, engraved with a monogram and inscription, gilt interior; the baluster jug with plain silver mount, with pre-1922 Austrian import mark

Catalogue Note
The inscription on the bowl reads: 'To Philip Tahourdin and Helen Dow, on their Wedding day, 19th July 1893 with best wishes from Herbert & Louisa Symes.'
Philip Tahourdin, a solicitor, who was born in London in 1856, joined the firm of Southall & Co of Worcester in January 1892. His health failed soon after his marriage in July 1893 and he died in London on 26 November 1894. He was survived by his widow and their son, Philip Ramsey Tahourdin. The latter, who became a second lieutenant in the Indian Infancy, was killed on active service on 17-18 April 1916.
