Condition

A few small filigree elements missing, mainly on the largest flowers, otherwise in good condition. Legible marks under the base. French later control mark on neck and inside cover rim.

Catalogue Note

Johann Friedrich Straub, who came from the prominent Straub family of goldsmiths from Nuremberg, started his training in Karlstad in 1674 and later registered there as a goldsmith.  He was later appointed as a councillor and, in 1690, as head of the local guild of goldsmiths.  He died in his adopted country in 1713.
