Catalogue Note

This patten is attributed to the goldsmith Andreas Tar in the above mentioned catalogue, on the strength of the similarity of the engraving to 77 drawings in his hand which have been at the University Library in Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) since 1915. (Ref: Schenkung durch die Witwe von Lajos Árkossy, Mitteilung von Brestyánszky,  1973, S. 364. Inv.-Nr. Handschriften 1616.)
There are references to András Tar from 1677 to 1683 when he was sometimes employed in the workshop of goldsmith István Ecsedi in Debrecen. Contemporary records show that he rented a house and paid taxes.
