Catalogue Note

The pair to this candlestick is in the Iparmuveszeti museum, Budapest, see above mentioned exhibition catalogue.
József Schätzl was born and educated in Vienna.  In 1737, he was registered in Gran as a citizen and as a goldsmith (until 1757). On 8 March of the same year, he was registered as a citizen and goldsmith in Pest.  He was elected to important guild posts for several periods from 1759 until his death in 1767.
