József Schätzl was born and educated in Vienna. In 1737, he was registered in Gran as a citizen and as a goldsmith (until 1757). On 8 March of the same year, he was registered as a citizen and goldsmith in Pest. He was elected to important guild posts for several periods from 1759 until his death in 1767.
