chased with a lion rampant, a stag and a rearing horse within auricular cartouches below boys' heads, similarly decorated above the base with a grazing rabbit between a stag-chasing hound, maker's mark only  poorly struck

Condition

In overall good condition. Usual minor dents and scratches. Gilding very slightly worn. Maker's mark only, under the base. Very attractive piece.

Catalogue Note

Although the maker's initials are difficult to decipher, the crown above the initials, a distinct feature of goldsmiths marks in Kronstadt, is very clear.
Valentinus (Felten) Urbiger became a master goldsmith in Brasov (Kronstadt) in 1641. According to the local goldsmiths’ guild Apprenticeship Book, he had two apprentices. He died in 1657.
