Catalogue Note

Josephus Benckner was in training from 1722 to 1726 and became a master goldsmith in Brasov (Kronstadt) in 1731.  In 1739, he was elected as spokesman for the young masters, and was head of the guild between 1769 and 1776.  From 1750, he also worked as a tax collector for the city administration.  The Apprentice Book records that he had three apprentices. He died in 1783.
