Catalogue Note

"The Bleach Paintings are made by first dying a stretched or unstretched piece of canvas with grey dye, then masking off a series of linear stripes with masking tape, and pouring household bleach over the entire surface. After a while the masking tape is removed, and a linear pattern is revealed which has been formed by the disappearance of the grey dye where the bleach has soaked its way into the canvas. The Bleach Paintings have sometimes been made on small cotton handkerchiefs."Allan McCollum, Interview by Thomas Lawson, 1995, A.R.T. Press, Los Angeles
