Catalogue Note

"A million thanks for your very generous gift of another wonderful portrait to add to our collection. The pleasure of coming to the studio every week makes, as I hope you know, all gifts quite unnecessary, but deeply appreciated. The portrait has been received with a great deal of joy and gratitude. It will keep good company with all our other Auerbachs. For me, and also for Jospeph, nothing is more satisfying than walls covered with your works." (Ruth Bromberg, 3rd November 2000)
