Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There are extremely light stretcher marks running parallel with the vertical edges. Examination under ultra-violet light reveals extremely fine areas of inpainting surrounding the top and bottom tips of the slash and in places towards the outer edges of the canvas .

Catalogue Note

"The cut stands alone in a serene field of pure monochromatic colour (and the serenity is there whether the canvas has one cut or twelve). The mystery is about light. The most intense moment of luminosity occurs at the point where the slightly curving planes at each side of the cut meet the slit of dark space beyond."
