Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is cooler in the original, with more grey tones throughout. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There is some light oxidization to the artist's frame and elswehare to the lead. Upon close inspection, there are several points at which the textured surface has come into contact with the glass, resulting in some very minor losses. There are some further tiny media losses scattered in a few places, in keeping with the artist's choice of medium and working process.

Catalogue Note

"I love to watch plants. It's a way of watching life. For many years I thought that nature was interesting in itself, but as I see it, the most interesting landscape is one where you have a bit of civilization and a bit of wildness..."

Anselm Kiefer cited in an Interview with Bernard Comment, 'Cette obscure clarte qui tombe des etoiles', ArtPress (September), Paris 1998,  p. 293
