Catalogue Note

The AR (Augustus Rex) mark was the cypher for King Augustus II of Poland, The Strong (1697-1733) and  for King Augustus III (1733-1763). This was added on pieces originally intended for royal palaces or as royal gifts. Because it was added before the enamelled decoration, it cannot always indicate that the piece was actually used so; some may have remained white in stock and were decorated some years later, like the present vase.
