Catalogue Note
These vases are an early and rare product of the small workshop set up at the Sèvres factory for a few years in the 1860s to experiment with earthenware and with coloured and special glazes.
The register of such pieces was started in 1864 and finished in 1869, and contain many entries for vases which might match ours, including pieces decorated with "fond brun et vert", "fond vert marbré", and "pâte marbrée".
We are grateful to Tamara Préaud for her assistance in catalguing this lot.
