Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good with some minor wear to the patina consistent with age and handling. There is an area of particular wear to the back right haunch of the horse.

Catalogue Note

The original monumental bronze was initially intended to stand in the centre of the rond-point des Champs-Élysées in Paris, but was eventually erected at the centre of the cour d'honneur at Versailles, where it still stands today.
