Description
- Antoine-Louis Barye
- Le Duc d'Orléans
- signed: BARYE
- silver, on a veined red marble base
with a post-1838 French control mark and an indistinct makers mark
Condition
Overall the condition of the silver is very good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age and handling. There are a few very small original lacunae throughout. The head is reattached at the neck and there is some glue staining down the Duc's thorax. There is mild oxidization (blackening) to the silver consistent with the material throughout (visible in the photograph); this could be easily cleaned by a professional. There are a few small chips and abrasions to the marble base, including some open veins.
