Condition

In overall good conserved condition. A rare piece due its large size and numerous legs. There are cracks and construction cracks in the top. Old marks, chips scratches and water stains as visible from the photograph. The top has an uneven colour and wood benefit from a repolish according to taste. There are patches to the veneer on the edge of the top which can not be explained. The stretcher is rather scuffed and there are some chips and minor losses to the legs but these are not too noticeable. Evidence of old worm which appears to be no longer active.

Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:

Claudio Paolini, il mobile del rinascimento, la collezione Herbert Percy Horne, Firenze, 2002, p. 25, and 47, inv. n. 133,  for a related centre table on eight baluster legs, stated to be Emilian and 17th century,  photographed on the first floor of palazzo Corsini.

This table is rare for its size but also the configuration of the legs which is highly unusual.
