Description
- steel, silver, ivory, mother of pearl, hardstone, shagreen
- seals 5-11cm. high; 2-4¼in.
comprising a French openwork steel penknife and case engraved with flowers and gallant mottos, cutler's mark, 17th century; two shagreen etuis, one empty and one containing apothecary's scales, circa 1800; seven desk seals, two of banded agate, one with matrix engraved with crest and motto, one mother of pearl and four with ivory handles, one French, the handle carved with a putto riding a dolphin, silver cushion, three with hardstone matrices engraved: Ardnagowan; an ivory paper-smoother; and a malachite-veneered gold dip pen, in the manner of Storr & Mortimer, in morocco case with traces of paper label, circa 1830 (13)
Condition
First is rusted with short portion of lid side lacking; some time scuffing to shagreen cases; one ivory seal lacking top, the carved seal with compressed silver cushion; malachite shaft of pen chipped
