Description

  • 7.5cm. high; 3in.
the amber bottle carved as a European gentleman, his head forming the stopper, wearing gilt-metal boots and seated in a gilt-copper openwork armchair with blackamoor arms, monkey and mask back, picked out in black and white cold enamel (2)

Condition

The body and chair in generally good order apart from around the neck; the stopper is loose and has been chipped on the chin area of the face and round the hat brim.

Catalogue Note

In general, European amber objects orginate from the Danzig and Konigsberg regions of the Baltic and non-Ruropean pieces come largely from China. The style of the present piece fits neither of these origins.
