Description

  • Mahogany and papermaché
  • tray 9.5cm. high, 63.5cm. wide, 41.5cm. deep; 3¾in., 2ft. 1in., 1ft. 4½in.
together with a George III mahogany cutlery tray with two divisions, and a pair of George III turned reeded mahogany decanter coasters, a further turned mahogany wine coaster and three George III papier maché wine coasters (8)

Provenance

The tray probably acquired from George Neilson, Edinburgh, 11 January 1965, 'Mahog. oval tray', according to Frederick McCarthy's stock books.

Condition

Oval tray: excellent condition. Some movement to the coopered sides. Some old marks. L-shaped scratch to surface. Cutlery tray: with crack to the base and marks from cutlery. Pair of reeded coasters: with marks from use, abrasions to sides and later handles. Single coaster: generally good, minor marks. Pair of amber papier maché coasters: very distressed with old repairs and losses. Single black papier maché coaster: tired condition.
