For a silver-gilt snuff box, maker's mark of Pierre Croissant, Paris, of the same date and unusual form, see P. Fuhring, M. Bimbenet-Privat, A. Kugel, Orfèvrerie française, La Collection Jourdan-Barry, vol II, no. 173. It has been suggested that the present example is the work of the silversmith Louis Derigouin who became master in 1714.
