Catalogue Note

Very rare: RISM lists a single complete copy in Munich. The first edition of these three-part madrigals is apparently lost and there does not appear to have been a third.  As with Gero's two-part madrigals (which were regularly reprinted until 1682; one was in the Landau sale in 1949), his three-part madrigals were apparently also popular in Italy and Germany, despite the extreme rarity of the present collection.
