Sur papier vergé (19 x 24,5 cm, 13,5 x 10, 5 cm à la cuvette), ancien onglet à la marge supérieure, pliure au coin supérieur droit, légende autour du portrait : "HIERONIMVS FRESCOBALDVS FERRARIENSIS ORGANISTA BASILICAE S. PETRI VRBE ROMA AETATIS SVAE 36." [Girolamo Frescobaldi de Ferrara, organiste de la Basilique Saint Pierre dans la ville de Rome, âgé de 36 ans.], et en dessous: "Cl. Mellan Gall' delin. et sculp." [dessiné et gravé par Claude Mellan de France].

Catalogue Note
Ce portrait est lié à l'oeuvre de Christian Sas et Jean Sailliant, qui porte une légende similaire mais non identique. Ce portrait gravé par Claude Mellan semble être le premier de trois tirages différents (l'impression originale, Rome). Les deux versions plus tardives sont une réimpression de l'éditeur et graveur parisien Michel Odieuvre (1687 - 1756), qui a ajouté son adresse: "a Paris chez Odieuvre Marchand d'Estampes, Quay de l'Ecole vis-à-vis le coté de la Samaritaine à la Belle Image" ; et une réimpression de Velly, 1778.
