Condition

Colours on the illustration are a little too light. Good general condition. Stable and comfortable seat; cover in good condition. Very fine carving, especially on the backrest. Has been stripped out; beechwood with a nice patina. Very minor old infills in places. Fine model of sofa with unusual and attractive proportions.

Catalogue Note

Michel Cresson, menuisier reçu maître en 1740

Le dossier "à épaulement" de ce canapé le destinait peut-être à s'intégrer à un décor de boiseries, les crossettes concaves du dossier sculptées de manière à épouser les moulures saillantes des lambris. 
Notons que Michel Cresson est également l'auteur des sièges meublants du grand salon du château d'Abondant, une paire de canapés et une paire de bergères, exceptionnellement conservés au sein du décor de boiseries pour lequel ils ont été conçus (musée du Louvre).
