Catalogue Note
This sumptuous volume represents a re-publishing of the official 1668 account by court historian André Félibien (1619-1695) of the great Feste de Versailles of 18 July 1668, augmented with engravings by Jean Le Pautre and Israël Silvestre. The lavish entertainments which are recorded here following the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1668, included a performance of Lully's comédie en musique, Les Festes de l'Amour et de Bacchus. This volume also contains engravings recording other festivals at Versailles in 1664 and, following Louis XIV's re-conquest of the Franche-Comté, in 1674.
